The Newnham Street Fair Committee get together on an annual basis to organise a midsummer outdoor event known as The Newnham Street Fair, with the kind permission of the Lord of the Manor, Parish Council and local residents.

Our main aim is to provide a venue for everyone in the village to meet, take part in and enjoy the day and raise money for the benefit of local groups, organisations, charities and the community. We hope that it results in something of interest for all ages.

Detailed accounts are kept and are available for inspection from the Committee.

In the past few years money has gone towards:-

- tree planting in the High Street and around the playing field
- maintenance of Christmas lights and additional lights
- display stands for the Armoury Hall
- a flagpole in the church yard
- restoration of the War Memorial
- equipment for the Youth Cafe at the Armoury Hall
- Newnham Early Birds for new equipment
- Severnside Football Club for a new strip and training equipment
- hanging baskets for the High Street
- The Skaters of Newnham Group to help build a skatepark in the village
- The Armoury Hall to help with the upkeep of this valuable community asset.

In the last few years our policy has been to concentrate our efforts on providing a venue for local groups and charities to raise money directly for themselves, rather than being a specific money raising body.

However we do manage to raise a small amount of money and we are interested to hear from local groups, organisations or individuals from the village who would like a donation towards their particular cause. Any request must be in writing detailing, information about your group or organisation, what the money would be used for and the benifits to the Newnham community.

Distribution of the money shall be at the discretion of the Committee and shall be decided by a majority vote of those present at a meeting called for the purpose.

Please send request to The Street Fair Committee, c/o Mike Penny, The Old Wharf, Newnham on Severn, Glos. GL14 1AX

The current committee consists of: Mike Penny, Trevor Firman, Kate Baugh, Jeremy Reader, Elaine Sheldrake and Robin Copeland.
